Singular releases faster versions of DualEyes, PluralEyes

updated 09:35 pm EDT, Tue July 12, 2011

Up to 10x faster synchronization of audio, video

Prosumers and professionals who shoot using separate audio and video capturing devices for either professional or amateur shoots with either single or multiple cameras usually need to spend significant time in the editing phase marrying the two tracks back together in perfect sync. Singular Software's PluralEyes and DualEyes products, now at version 2.0, can do the job automatically -- now at three to 10 times the speed of the previous version.

The programs analyze the usually substandard-quality audio captured from video cameras or DSLRs and uses it as a sync base for aligning the professional audio capture from other devices. It will automatically produce a master track, letting editors drop in other shots without disrupting the sync -- without clappers or timecodes. PluralEyes works as a plug-in for specific video editing systems like Final Cut Pro, while DualEyes is a standalone application intended for replacing a single camera's scratch audio with higher-quality audio.

The company credits a combination of improved algorithms and optimizing multiprocessor techniques for the speed increase, which greatly improves the efficiency of the first version, which was already a huge time-saver over manually trying to sync various separate video and audio tracks into one editing, synchronized final product.

The new version of PluralEyes, which supports multi-camera setups, is available now for Final Cut Pro (version 6 and 7; support for FCP X has been delayed due to Apple not yet making the SDK the company requires available yet). The company also makes versions of PluralEyes for EDIUS, Adobe's Premiere Pro, Avid's Media Composer and Sony's Vegas. Preview versions of PluralEyes v2 for Premiere Pro and Vegas Pro are available now, with the final release not yet announced but expected in the next few weeks. A preview version of DualEyes 2 is also available.

PluralEyes 2.0 costs $149, and is a free update for all existing PluralEyes and DualEyes users. Free 30-day trial versions of the software are available. Educational discounts and volume orders are also available.
