G-Form offering Extreme Portfolio for iPad

updated 10:35 pm EDT, Tue July 12, 2011

Famous for enduring extreme drops, shock

G-Form, known for its tough but soft-sided cases for iPhones and other mobile devices, have debuted the Extreme Portfolio for iPad (original or 2nd generation), utilizing the company's Reactive Protection Technology (RPT). To demonstrate the effectiveness of the case, the company has released a new video on YouTube showing a comparative drop between it and a competing product from 60 feet, screen side down.

G-Form's RPT technology absorbs 90 percent of the energy of an impact and stiffens when shocked by a drop or other force impact, and although it may not ever win any fashion awards offers a lightweight, water-resistant case with selective polycarbonate reinforcement on the corners and front to offer the strongest protection available. The case comes with an adjustable easel stand, an inside pocket for documents and a reversible zipper. The case entirely encloses the iPad, leaving no part of the machine exposed when fully closed.

The Extreme Portfolio will also fit other similarly-sized iPad competitors, such as the Motorola Xoom, HP TouchSmart, Acer Iconia or Samsung Galaxy. In the video, an iPad is first dropped from a height of 60 feet using a hard-shell case from an unnamed competitor. The case shatters along with the iPad from the force of the drop, while a second drop using the Extreme Portfolio does no damage to either the case or the iPad inside (both were turned on and playing a movie before being enclosed in their cases and then dropped).

The G-Form Extreme Portfolio is available for pre-order now at a cost of $80, and will begin shipping on August 11th. Pre-orders are limited to two per customer for the time being. The company also makes a similarly-protective case in sleeve form for the iPad and other tablets.
