iPhone SLR Mount turns iPhone into DSLR camera

updated 02:50 pm EDT, Thu July 7, 2011

Works with either Nikon or Canon EOS lenses

Photojojo has introduced the iPhone SLR Mount. The combination phone case and lens mount supports either Nikon or Canon EOS SLR lenses, and comes with a UV filter. The aluminum case has holes that allow a camera strap to be attached.

There are two versions of the iPhone SLR Mount, one for Nikon and one for Canon EOS lenses. Either version retails for $190.

    God, where to start....

First off, MacNN.. This does not make an iPhone a DSLR. Not even close (I'll spare you, but go look up DSLR on google) Oh wait.. that might require research. never mind.

Secondly, If you have a lens like this, then certainly you have a camera to go along with it. What would the point be to use the low quality optics of the iPhone?

Love the photos tho.. using $1,000-$2500 glass for an iPhone.

Unlike the days of film, UV filters don't serve much purpose in the digital world.

iPhone 4 Stills - decent quality

I have actually used a still photo from an iPhone 4 for a newsprint magazine cover and was pleasantly surprised it turned out very well. Nonetheless, carrying all of this around just to use an SLR lens on an iPhone is counterintuitive to the all-in-one compactness of the iPhone. And as another poster eluded to, if you are going to be carrying around all of that lens, you might as well carry your dedicated camera too.

I have a canon rebel and I would like to take pictures once in a while with the iphone. In normal light conditions, HDR in the iPhone 4 is a very good help for photos. And even that I already have a DSLR camera, I would like to carry with the lenses and the iphone and not the complete camera so I can always have a good shoot and not always expose my camera to the thieves.

    Better ignore that incoming call

Although you could use speaker phone, they should show someone answering a phone call with expensive DSLR lens to highlight that the iPhone is still a functional phone!

Umm, no it doesn't. It doesn't do that at all.

Serisouly writers are not so smart are they?

It is Reflex, in that it bounces the image off a mirror, and then either off a second mirror, or-more commonly-through a prism. GET IT.

    eye-fi instead

If you really need to get pics from your big DSLR lens into your iPhone, you could use the Eye-Fi X2 SD card in your camera with the Direct Mode feature that sends the pictures to your phone. Although, a telephoto lens would be a super-duper telephoto with the tiny iPhone sensor, so maybe that's where this product is aimed.

    UV filter

What makes you think you don't need a UV filter when shooting in high UV situations. While its true that CCD and CMOS are more sensitive to IR then UV. Film was more sensitive to uv then IR that doesn't mean that say on a high haze day that a UV Filter won't help cut through that Haze or help in high altitude situations to help control UV affects.
