Nokia promises several N9 updates, years of support

updated 09:40 am EDT, Thu July 7, 2011

MeeGo-based phone will be around for a while

In June, Nokia launched the much anticipated MeeGo-based N9 smartphone. Shortly afterwards, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop enraged both Nokia and MeeGo fans by revealing that there might not be more of the open OS based phones, as Nokia followed through on its commitment to consolidate its efforts instead around Microsoft's Windows Phone OS. Recently, Klas Ström, Nokia's Head of Portfolio Management tried to emphatically reassure N9 customers that the company was committed to providing long term support for the phone.

"We will support #NokiaN9 for years," Ström said in a Tweet Tuesday, "AND release several SW updates... #nottoworry :)"

It is unclear if Ström's comment will have any positive impact on N9 sales. Rumors abound that less than 100,000 units will be sold during the phone's lifetime. [via IntoMobile]
