Bing iPad app adds Lasso copy-and-paste feature

updated 02:40 pm EDT, Tue July 5, 2011

Feature said to be expanding beyond search box

Microsoft has announced an update to its Bing app for the iPad. The latest version adds a new feature, referred to as Lasso, that enables users to quickly select text to use as a search. Rather than relying on the traditional copy-and-paste process, Lasso automatically begins a search after touch gestures are used to encircle a group of words.

Aside from the new input method, the update also brings improvements to the movies feature; users can now view multiple showtime days and theaters. The interface also supports swipe gestures to navigate through the last six homepage images, while overall performance is said to be improved.

Bing 1.1 is now available as a free download from the App Store.
