iPhone 4 prototype lands on eBay, gets huge bids
An iPhone 4 prototype has surfaced on eBay attracting huge bids. At the time of writing, the auction was still live with the current bid at $1725 and seven and a half days left running in the auction. The device looks to be a genuine prototype with notable features including the absence of plus and minus symbols missing from the volume buttons and five X's appearing where the model number would normally appear.
The seller acknowledges that the device will not work and includes a screen shot from the activation process showing an error message. The device is said to have minor damage and marks on it, however, it still capable of being turned on with the screen fully functional.
The device is said to be very similar to the infamous iPhone 4 prototype that was lost ahead of the official iPhone 4 launch. That device, like the one currently on sal, technically remains the property of Apple and could well land the seller and potential purchaser in hot water if Apple decides to reclaim it as it did with the first prototype that went missing.
