Google+ app for iPad, iPhone just waiting for approval

Google says Plus app for iOS imminent

Google TV developer Erica Joy used Google+ to confirm that the social network's upcoming iOS app has been sent to Apple for approval. The app should be in the App Store soon and should be universal to accommodate the iPad alongside iPhone and iPod owners. iOS users currently have to depend on an optimized web app that doesn't allow some important Google+ features, such as Instant Upload photos or Huddle chat.

The search giant launched the service hand-in-hand with the expected Android app but had only given an indefinite promise of an iOS version coming afterwards.

Google's plan to launch so soon could lead it to ironically overtake Facebook. Although Google chairman Eric Schmidt has admitted that his company has been slow to latch on to social networks, it could have an iPad-native app before the Facebook equivalent. Both are known to be in the works, but the Facebook app isn't thought to have reached the approval stage and could be weeks or more away.

None of the apps so far integrate Hangout, the Google+ system for video chat. Its support for up to ten people at a time may make it impractical on 3G and mobile Wi-Fi.
