AppMobi unveils AppFlash converter for iOS developers

updated 11:15 pm EDT, Thu June 30, 2011

Converts ads, websites, web apps to HTML5

AppMobi has released a new web-based application called AppFlash that gives advertisers, developers and web admins an easy way to convert their Flash-based content to HTML-based iOS code, making it possible to deliver them as iOS apps. The utility is said to be "experimental" by the company, and leverages Google Labs' Swiffy website to do the initial conversion from Flash's .SWF format to HTML5.

Once the conversion is done, developers load the HTML5 code into AppFlash, where they can view and touch up the HTML5 code using the company's XDK software. The code can even be tested directly on a developer's iOS device using the company's AppLab software. AppFlash can then build the code as a native app for the Apple App Store in a single click.

In testing AppFlash's initial versions, the developers made a surprising discovery: Google's own Swiffy service does not generate HTML5 that is compatible with its own Android smartphone and tablet OS. The company says that once Google fixes Swiffy to output Android-compatible code, they will update AppFlash to build Android apps as well as iOS apps.

The AppFlash app is available free from the AppMobi site.
