iPhone 5-fighting Galaxy S II Plus due in August?
Samsung is rumored to be working on a high-end iPhone 5 rival, says Pop Herald. The phone, which may or may not be known as the Galaxy S II Plus, would sport a 1.4GHz processor instead of the 1.2GHz in the current S II. The iPhone 5 is expected to arrive in September, and would mean flagship handsets from competitors would be about six months behind.
There should also be 1GB of RAM onboard and Android 2.3.4 overlaid by the TouchWiz UI. Google Talk with video call support would come with the new OS build. The device, whatever its name, is expected to launch in August or September.
Samsung has already been having strong sales of the current S II and may have little incentive to upgrade the phone just a few months after it reached stores. The Korean company has been burned by Apple before, however, and slimmed down the Galaxy Tab 10.1 after the iPad 2 proved to be noticeably superior in dimensions to what Samsung had already planned.
