ExEn beta to let devs port Xbox, Windows games to iOS, web

updated 02:55 pm EDT, Fri June 24, 2011

Utility works with Microsoft's XNA dev kit

Developers may soon be able to take advantage of a new tool designed to port Xbox and Windows games to a variety of other popular platforms, including iOS, Android and web browsers. The utility, labeled ExEn, works with Microsoft's XNA software development kit, which is utilized by developers to create games for Xbox Live and Windows.

ExEn's developer, Andrew Russell, suggests the current public preview already enables XNA ports to Silverlight and iOS, though he admits that the Android feature is not yet ready for a general release. The ability to convert titles to Android games is still planned for the final version, however.

Developers who helped fund the project will be invited to join the pre-release program, enabling them to access the Android port as it continues to be improved. Others will have to wait, though the other primary features are said to be included in a public preview version of the software.
