Valentina DB and Reports hits version 4.9

updated 11:50 pm EDT, Fri June 24, 2011

Query statistics profiling, report previews, more

Paradigma Software has updated its flagship products, the cross-platform database system Valentina DB and the business data reporting tool Valentina Reports, along with the free iValentina companion database apps for iPhone and iPad. The new releases add more than 100 improvements, changes, fixes and customer-requested features, including query statistics profiling and compatibility with Real Software's Real Studio Web Edition.

Valentina DB v4.9 now sports client caching of server-side cursors, which makes for a 10x performance improvement for accessing data, as well as query statistics profiling, which helps database adminstrators diagnose performance problems in queries. The database engine also includes better XML exporting, SQL dump import and export, more efficient macros for developers and 64-bit signed .NET development.

Valentina Reports v4.9 offers more aspect control of embedded and field pictures, expressions within the HTML control and general improvements in layouts. The Reports program allows developers to embed rich, visual business reports within their own apps, and is also incorporated into Valentina Office Server. The company says it is working on adding SQLite, Postgre and MySQL database support into the app.

Also updated is the Paradigma's iValentina iOS apps, which include usability improvements, tab panels for quickly switching views, and enhancements to the virtual keyboard. The company's Valentina Studio has also been updated, with the former sporting new text display styles, new auto-shape styles, and exporting to SVG and Postscript among many other interface improvements. Studio Pro converts SQLite databases into native Valentina DB format, and is included in Valentina Office Server.

Valentina Office Server is priced starting at $300, with an unlimited version for $1,500. A free embedded version is available for developers who license the Valentina Developer Network, and a free Linux version for non-commercial purposes is also available.
