Fujifilm FinePix X100 firmware live with major updates

updated 09:55 am EDT, Fri June 24, 2011

Fujifilm X100 1.1 brings massive upgrades

Fujifilm as promised put out a major firmware update for the FinePix X100 that addresses a slew of complaints for the otherwise well-received camera. The 1.1 update. The pseudo-rangefinder now locks down its drive mode, flash, macro, and white balance settings and will remember these along with more settings, including when the camera is shut off. Autofocusing is better as well with both a preserved frame size when switching viewfinders and an autofocus point that can stay onscreen, parallax-adjusted, while shooting macros or other closeups where the camera might need to move off-center.

Several other strictly helpful improvements are in place, including the option of reprogramming the function button just by holding the button down for three seconds. Auto ISO mode now shows what the sensitivity will be with a half-press of the shutter. It's now possible to adjust aperture or shutter speed in one-third-stop increments when in either of their respective priority modes, not just full manual mode. Photographers also get better dynamic range when shooting in the simulated Velvia/Astia film settings and can turn on red eye reduction even with RAW shots.

Notifications also tend to display for longer, and post-shot photo reviews let users zoom into the focused area.

The update should be available immediately worldwide.
