Automatic Duck releases Pro Export 5 for Final Cut Pro X

updated 02:30 am EDT, Wed June 22, 2011

New tool is exclusive for FCP X

On the same day that Apple made Final Cut Pro X available, plug-in maker Automatic Duck has announced a new, exclusively-for-FCP-X version of Pro Export FCP, version 5.0. The app, which exports audio from Final Cut Pro into AAF or OMF format for Pro Tools, also has version 4 available for Final Cut Pro 7 and earlier. Buyers now get both v4 and v5 included.

Pro Export FCP v5 now stands alone as a separate application instead of functioning as a plug-in in the Export menu of FCP. The AAF file exports require Pro Tools 9 (or DigiTranslator for earlier versions of Pro Tools).

Pro Export FCP v5 for Final Cut Pro X (which includes Pro Export FCP v4 for Final Cut Pro 7 and earlier) sells for $495. Existing Pro Export users can upgrade to the new standalone v5 for $195.

    WTF??

So Previously you could export from Final Cut Pro for the cost of a 999.00 suite of apps..
now you get one app (granted..it's 299.00) that requires a 500.00 plugin??
    awesome.

    Um, no

FCP has never, to my knowledge, been able to export to AAF or OMF without a plug-in. So the people who used earlier versions of FCP (which, as you point out, cost them $1000) also had to buy the $500 plug-in for this highly specialized purpose.

Maybe a lot of people wouldn't have a need for this, but when you've got multiple layers of audio in a video project and then need to move the audio to Pro Tools, a flat (or flattened) export just ain't gonna work.
