Sony Alpha A65, A77 spied for the first time

updated 11:15 am EDT, Wed June 22, 2011

New 24 megapixel cameras will debut late 2011

Photos of Sony's new APS-C cameras, the A77 and A65, have leaked online. Sources for sonyalpharumors also indicated that the launch date for the cameras has been pushed back due to production issues stemming from the twin tsunami and Fukushima disasters in March. The leaker said the A77 will have a magnesium alloy body, a new 24 megapixel sensor, a new double Bionz processor, and a 3 million dot OLED viewfinder. It also has an improved autofocus with 11 cross AF points, and is capable of shooting more than 10 frames per second or full HD video.

The A77 will take CF, SD, and MS cards. The camera can take up to 1,000 pictures with a fully charged battery.

The A65 is an upgrade to the A55. The leaker said the it will be very similar to the A77, except for the lack of a top LCD viewfinder or the magnesium alloy body.

Both new cameras will use the translucent viewfinder that debuted on the A55.

The source said to expect an official announcement in August on shipping dates and prices. The expected body-only price for the A77 is $1,000. [via sonyalpharumors]
