Sprint to carry Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi on July 24

updated 12:05 pm EDT, Tue June 21, 2011

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi hits Sprint next month

Sprint on Tuesday became the first carrier to formally pick up the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The carrier will pick up the 16GB Wi-Fi version largely unchanged from the official Samsung design and will count on users picking up a MiFi or Overdrive router to get 4G. Stores should have them on July 24 for the $500 price of the stand-alone version.

The 10-inch Galaxy Tab is the first tablet to ship with Android 3.1 from the start and is considered the thinnest and lightest of its size at 0.34 inches deep and 1.24 pounds. Sprint won't have modified the software and will be leaving it effectively stock.

Verizon is so far pegged as the first US carrier to be delivering the tablet with real cellular data and will have an LTE-based 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1 arriving at an undefined point in the summer.
