LulzSec suspect caught in UK, group claims to take UK census

FBI, New Scotland Yard cooperating to stop hackers

Officers of the Police Central e-Crime Unit have arrested a 19-year old man in Essex, England for his part in a series of network hacks and denial of service attacks. New Scotland Yard stopped short of saying that the man is suspected of belonging to LulzSec, but confirmed that the FBI had helped with the investigation. Earlier this month a second member of the group was rumored to be in FBI in custody. The impact of the arrests on LulzSec's activities is unclear. Today the group said it had breached security for the UK Census database.

LulzSec hinted that it might release the census data after reformatting it.

The group continues to taunt law enforcement and post reports of its exploits on its Twitter account, which has over 220,000 followers.

LulzSec has claimed credit for high profile attacks against Sony as well as several computer security firms and government websites. Other hacks by LulzSec include an FBI-affiliated site, the CIA website, the US Senate website, and the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency site. The group's hack of the Sony PlayStation Network caused a loss of $17 million. [via Naked Security]
