Huawei MediaPad, Android 3.2, 217ppi

Huawei has formally unveiled its 7-inch MediaPad tablet. The device is notable as it will be the first to launch with Google's Android 3.2 operating system. According to Huawei, the principal difference between Android 3.2 and Android 3.0 and 3.1, is that this version of Google's large screen tablet OS is also designed to work on smaller tablet devices.

The MediaPad is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and centers on a relatively high pixel density display. Currently, the Motorola Xoom has the highest pixel density of any mainstream tablet on the market at 160ppi. The Huawei MediaPad's 7-inch WSVGA display boasts a pixel density of 217ppi, which bests the iPad 2's pixel density of 132ppi by some margin.

In addition, the tablet includes a 1080p over HDMI output, a 5-megapixel rear auto-focus camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front camera for video chatting. Connectivity is provided by way of 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and HSPA 3G at 14.4Mb/s. There are currently no plans for a Wi-Fi only model.

Although it is thicker than the iPad 2 at 11mm, it weighs just 390g. The 4100mAh battery is said to be good for over 6 hours of use.

The device will ship this fall at a price to be announced.
