Time Warner slip shows revamped iPad app, DVR updates

updated 09:05 pm EDT, Fri June 17, 2011

Time Warner Cable iPad app to hit 2.0 late June

A tell-all document escaped on Friday night has detailed some of Time Warner Cable's plans to revamp its TW Cable TV iPad app and tweak its DVRs. The 2.0 version of the app would bring a full interactive guide as well as turn the iPad into a direct remote control for the set-top box, Engadget saw. Owners would get the option of remotely scheduling a DVR when it's available.

DVRs would get a new update known as Florence. The push would give some Cisco, Motorola, and Samsung boxes more contemporary features, such as deleting recorded shows in a multi-room environment, better Start Over and Look Back features, more overall picture control, and transparency effects to put more focus on the picture.

The Florence patch doesn't have a date, but Time Warner Cable managed to get a June 28 release date for the 2.0 revision of the iPad app.

    What about viewing experience?

My TW Cable app is in constant stutter mode, playing about 3-5 seconds before pausing for 3-5 seconds. This happens so often it is un-watchable. I have checked my network speed and that is not the issue.

I have no problem with Netfilx on the same iPad and network, and the quality is excellent.
