HTC to cut apps to make Desire's Android 2.3 upgrade fit

HTC says compromise needed for Desire Android 2.3

HTC in a fresh statement said that it would have to make compromises to fit the Desire's upgrade to Android 2.3. Memory was still a problem and would push the company to "cut select apps" to make it fit. The phone builder didn't say which but implied it would be pruning some of the less vital HTC Sense apps rather than anything from Google.

The company had initially said it wouldn't upgrade at all as it claimed it couldn't fit both HTC Sense and Android 2.3 on the Desire at the same time. A public outcry led it to eventually change its mind.

HTC's limitation has raised the issue of Android fragmentation as an obstacle to releases. Phone makers' insistences on including custom interfaces has usually resulted in delays but has increasingly affected performance and the ability to handle the updates even when ready. Users have noted that the Nexus One, virtually identical to the Desire outside of software, is much faster with the same software and got Android 2.3 four months ago.

    What a mess

This is what happen when you put not enough flash ram in a phone and force user to depend on sd card to expand the internal memory but can't be use for apps and OS... what a mess.
