Skype service to be enabled via adaptor box

Comcast has announced that its cable subscribers will soon be able to take advantage of Skype's video calling services. Users will be able to make and receive Skype video and audio calls directly from a television, even while watching shows. An onscreen notification will also provide caller ID information for incoming calls, while calls can be seamlessly transferred from the TV system to a smartphone or tablet running the Xfinity Mobile app.

The cable company will provide a special adapter box and a video camera to upgrade existing equipment for Skype support. Customers will also receive a remote control designed for text messaging alongside standard television controls.

Customer trials for Skype integration are expected to begin in the coming months. The company will announce further details later in the year.
