Magellan Roadmate 5175T-LM pops up with Wi-Fi, web browser

Magellan unveils GPS unit with own browser

Magellan has quietly slipped out a GPS unit of its own with Wi-Fi. The five-inch RoadMate 5175T-LM can connect to a local hotspot for browsing the web. The extra is considered a tool to browse for locations before getting directions, but a landscape mode also turns it into a miniature tablet for use while away from the car.

The new navigator has a new Tour Director that lets users pick a schedule of multiple locations to visit and plots the route between all of them. As usual, with Magellan AAA's TourBooks guides come with the GPS and can help provide recommendations. Lifetime map and traffic updates come standard.

Few frills exist, but it does handle lane assist and other modern direction features. Magellan and others are listing it as costing $300, though without a formal announcement it hasn't been given a ship date. [via GPS Tracklog]
