Blocks malware downloads without recording URLs

Google has released a new stable version of Chrome, v12.0.742.91, which makes several important enhancements. The browser will for instance now warn against downloading some malicious files, supposedly without Google or even Chrome knowing about associated URL or file history. The software also provides more control over data stored by websites, in particular Local Shared Objects used by Flash. These were previously only controllable via Adobe's website, but the company is said to have cooperated with Google on adding LSO deletion to Chrome.

The app has also given improved hardware graphics acceleration, which now supports 3D CSS. Users must be running at least Snow Leopard or Windows Vista. To demonstrate the technology Google has set up a another Chrome Experiment, in which users can rotate and scale a video, toggle a reflection on and off, and turn on a video carousel. The demo is based on Shaun the Sheep by Aardman Studio, best known for the Wallace and Gromit shorts.

The beta track of Chrome is currently the same as stable, but within days will likely progress to v13 builds. An early version of Chrome 13 allowed users to hide virtually all of the browser's interface, including even the Address Bar, which was made visible by clicking on a browser tab.
