Acer TimelineX 2011 redesign hits US shores

Acer early this morning brought its 2011 TimelineX redesign to the US. The newer versions keep the minimalist, lightweight designs from other countries as well as their upgrades to Sandy Bridge-era, low-power Core i3 and i5 chips, although the Core i7 is absent. Higher-end and mostly larger systems come with either GeForce GT 520M or 540M dedicated video to push gaming while keeping battery life intact using Optimus switching, at up to eight hours when the faster video is in place.

Modern expansion is a key with Dolby Home Audio version 4 support, HDMI out, and USB 3.0 input.

At the series' lightest, the 13.1-inch 3830T is about 4.1 pounds with an optical drive and measures no more than 1.15 inches deep. The 4830T and 5830T expand to 14- and 15.6-inch displays each with according weight hikes to 4.9 and 5.6 pounds. Acer has been mum on what speeds they get apart from starting with the Core i3 and Intel video, scaling up to the Core i5 and GeForce video later.

Systems start off at $600. Retailers should have the new TimelineX series as of Tuesday.
