Sony 24-inch 3D TV hits 499 with glasses
Sony's E3 keynote saw it bring out a surprise TV designed specifically for PS3 gamers. The 24-inch 3D Display is intended to make 3D gaming cheap and costs just $499, even with active shutter glasses in the box. It also carries a trick still rare for 2D players: it can show separate images for players on the left and right sides, allowing split-screen on one display without either easily snooping on the other.
The set outputs 2D at 1080p and has its own 2.1-channel audio system. Sony expects the screen to ship in the fall with one pair of glasses and a six-foot HDMI cable. An extra pair of glasses costs $70 and isn't limited to the new TV.
Gamers who already have a TV still got a hardware option in the form of Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition. It carries both a copy of the alternate-history shooter as well as a PlayStation Move controller, the companion navigation controller, a PlayStation Eye camera and a unique Resistance-themed gun cradle for the Move. The pack is due to ship along with the game on September 6 for a comparatively cheap $150.
