ViewSonic intros 7" ViewBook 730 tablet for $250

updated 11:50 am EDT, Mon June 6, 2011

Android-based tablet offers entry-level features

After introducing several new tablets last week at Computex, ViewSonic has unveiled another seven-inch model, the ViewBook 730, with an entry-level feature set. The device offers an 800x480 touchscreen and Android 2.2, rather than the tablet-optimized version of Google's mobile OS. The 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor is capable of 1080p video output via HDMI, while a front-facing VGA camera supports video chat.

The company suggests the ViewBook's screen is geared for pen writing, enabling users to take notes or make sketches using an included stylus. Other standard features include 8GB of memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microSD slot, and a battery claimed to reach eight hours per charge.

The Computex introductions included the ViewPad 7x, which steps up to Android 3.0, a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and a 1024x600 touchscreen. Although the company has yet to announce pricing for the 7x, it is expected to command a premium over the 730.

The ViewPad 730 will arrive on the market at the end of June for $250.
