Android 3.0 paired with spinning storage

Archos has announced that it will unveil its Generation 9 tablets on June 23, at a special event to take place at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. The France-based company recently teased the ninth-generation devices, which will be based on Android 3.0 with customizations for HDD storage. All of the Gen 9 tablets are said to be the first to utilize a dual-core 1.6GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, besting the 1GHz offerings that currently dominate the field.

The hard drives are expected to give the tablets an edge when comparing storage capacity with overall price. Archos suggests its 250GB options will be comparable in price to other tablets using just 32GB of flash storage.

The company has yet to provide images or a full list of specs for the Gen 9 offerings. [via Archos Lounge]

    Generation 9?

What does a generation means for them? prototypes? I didn't even hear there was a previous generation. Where are the other 8 generations?

Not too well know in the States but...

Archos has been making media storage/playback devices with a tactile display and wireless connectivity (tablets?) since the late 90's.

The first devices were rather chunky, but you could download to it all your photos (and music) to it's internal hard drive back in the days when SD memory cards were sold in 16MB sizes.

From it, and it's later incarnations with bigger screens, you could see your photos on most TVs and even transmit MP3s to a nearby FM radio.

Today only a a few phones, most notably the Nokia N8, allow you to send your music and videos to external screens wirelessly.
