Users can finally migrate AW drawings
Answering a long-standing and increasingly-urgent request, Purgatory Design today released Intaglio v3.2, which finally adds direct import for AppleWorks 6 drawing files, meaning users can migrate the drawing files to more modern formats without losing quality or vector attributes. The update also fixes an occasional crash that would occur when using the CMKY color sliders in the Apple color picker, along with miscellaneous other bug fixes and improvements.
Intaglio is inspired by the design and functionality of MacDraw, and converts old drawings from ClarisDraw and MacDraw II/Pro along with PICT and other QuickDraw-based images (from OS 9 and earlier) into modern Quartz graphics, enabling them to be used in current drawing applications. It can also convert PDF, EPS and SVG graphics files into editable Quartz-based graphics. The app deeply harnesses Quartz and CoreImage drawing technologies, including all available filters.
Other features include sophisticated text manipulation (including text on paths), a pro-quality pen tool, a scale and dimension tool, brushes, compound paths, Applescript and Automator support, QuickLook and Spotlight support and more. English, French and German languages are supported as well.
Intaglio v3.2 is available now and costs $89 for new customers. Current users with a standard license will receive the update free, while those who purchased earlier versions of the software through software bundle deals can upgrade to the new version for $39. A demo version is available, but is save-disabled and watermarks printed or exported drawings. The software requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher for PPC users (along with QuickTime 7) or 10.4.7 or higher for Intel users. An unsupported earlier version (v2.8.2) is available for users on earlier versions of OS X (10.2-10.3.8).

Thank you!
My wife has been using AppleWorks for years. It just worked for her and she saw no reason to change. I was getting worried that, since AppleWorks is a PowerPC product and Lion drops PowerPC emulation, there was no upgrade path for her. She has been using Intaglio for new drawings but there's years worth of old stuff. Some of it may never be used again but at least now I can (hopefully) write an Applescript to convert all the old files!
