HP webOS 3 gets in-app purchasing and submissions

HP helped build up to the launch of the TouchPad by adding heavily requested support for in-app purchasing. Much like Android and iOS, webOS 3.0 apps will have the option of extra content. Developers who have a registered account can start adding code immediately and will get the option of an in-app review in about two weeks, supporting notions that the TouchPad is due to ship in a similar timeframe.

Regardless of intent, HP is now taking app submissions for the new version of webOS. App creators can flag an app as working with the TouchPad and, if they want, make webOS 3.0 the minimum.

End users who get a TouchPad will see the apps on launch but will only see some older apps, HP said: while apps written in the newer Mojo framework will normally be automatically visible, apps that need a webOS phone's gesture area or other specific features not on the TouchPad won't be moved up. HP has promised to get in touch with those whose apps break under the new model.

Unofficially, HP is due to ship the TouchPad on or near June 12 beginning from $499 for a 16GB model.

    New target for Lodsys

I wonder how long before Lodsys will file suit against WebOS developers.
