Android Ice Cream Sandwich to focus on TI chips?

updated 01:05 pm EDT, Wed June 1, 2011

OMAP 4 said to be next reference platform

Google may be planning to switch its preferred chip maker for the upcoming Android update, known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Although the company has focused on NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 2 components for tablets running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the search giant is said to be considering a transition to Texas Instruments' OMAP 4 chips for the next major revision to the mobile OS.

"TI are just so reliable," unnamed sources told RCR Wireless. "If they say they'll have something done by Tuesday, it's done on Tuesday, and it's done right."

Google has yet to confirm which platform Ice Cream Sandwich will be optimized for, though the TI move, if true, suggests NVIDIA's Tegra 3 hardware may have failed to impress. The successor to Tegra 2 is nonetheless expected to be the first chipset to bring quad-core processors to tablets, with products unlikely to ship before next year.

The same sources claim that Google may already be eyeing Qualcomm for the following version of Android, referred to as Jello. The company is not said to be giving each chip maker a chance in turn, however, as the decision is based on a "purely utilitarian" strategy in choosing the best platform to optimize for. So only 1 year old tablets are domed?

If "ice cream" or what ever it is called Android OS is for Texas Instruments chip, does that means that all other tables that with Tegra are domed?
Same thing happened with the first sansumg Galaxy tab. They came out with Andorid 2.2.
Google said that Android 2.2 was not for Tablets, so sansumg said "Please, buy it now and you can update later to Honeycomb"
Problem was that at the time "honeycomb" was released, it was for DUAL CORE and the galaxy was SINGLE CORE. So all the apple haters who brought a galaxy tab were left abandon by Google and Sansung....

Even that I bet you they will still buying android tablets, they don't care about usability and reliability, they just care about hating apple because they are poor and they can afford apple computers even that apple Tablets are less expensive than android tablets.

Do you really want a android tablet will all that facts?
