Rumor: Apple begins certifying components for iPad 3

updated 11:30 pm EDT, Tue May 31, 2011

Screen size to remain unchanged, reports say

A report printed in DigiTimes, a sometimes-accurate source for component news, claims that Apple has already begun the process of certifying components designed to be used in the third generation of iPad, which is not expected until early next year. The report says that the certification of companies such as Radiant Opto-Electronics and Taiwan-based Chimei Innolux is nearly complete, and that the screen will remain the same size at 9.7 inches diagonal.

According to the report, Taiwan-based companies would be supplying backlight modules and light bars, while the actual panels would come from Chimei Innolux. South Korean firms including Samsung and LG Display have also been panel suppliers for Apple.

The reports, attributed to industry sources, dismissed the rumors that next year's iPad will adopt AMOLED panels, though claims of Apple management holding talks with Samsung about the idea persist. Currently the iPad (both the original and the current model) use LED-backlit LCD panels at 1024x768 resolution.

DigiTimes claims that Taiwan-based firms believe that once the iPad 3 goes on sale, the iPad 2 will be retained and have its price lowered as a budget-priced option to compete with other tablets, particularly against the smaller and often cheaper seven-inch tablets.

    re: and?

    Oh and this surprises you??

Apple is waiting to see what new hardware and software tricks Google has up their sleeve before shamelessly "re-engineering" it to become a revolutionary and magical concept Apple "iCreated".

Steve was right again. Yes, this is definitely the year of the "iCopycats".
