Facebook and Netflix said making media sharing deal

Facebook in talks with Spotify, Netflix, others?

Facebook is working on ways to help users share their own multimedia files and those they like and is in talks with several companies to help them enable this, the New York Times reported. One of them includes Spotify, which would help develop a tab or widget that would display a user's most-played songs. Friends would also be able to listen to these tracks, sources close to the matter say.

The same sources also say Facebook wants to apply the same to video and news. Facebook wouldn't officially comment on these plans.

"Listening to music is something that people do with their friends," said Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg at the recent eG8 conference in France. "Music, TV, news, books -- those types of things I think people just naturally do with their friends. I hope we can play a part in enabling those new companies to get built, and companies that are out there producing this great content to become more social."

Zuckerberg also admitted Facebook is in talks with Netflix. Music services like Spotify and Pandora already let users log into their services with Facebook credentials as a way to let Facebook friends view their activities.

By letting their 700 million users share their multimedia consumption through various media partners, Facebook wouldn't have to license content from record or TV companies.

Warner is already offering movie rentals through a dedicated Facebook app.
