Samsung D600 for Sprint hits in first photos

Sprint is readying a new Samsung phone that would raise the baseline for entry smartphones. A leak early Thursday has shown the SPH-D600, which would have an unusual mix of high- and low-end features. The device spotted by Phandroid would have just a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 320x480 screen but use Android 2.3, a 1GHz processor, and built-in 4G.

Some questions still remain over what the phone will be like, including whether or not it's using Samsung's TouchWiz interface or if it will be closer to stock. The face hints at the possibility of a front video camera but isn't confirmed. An earlier FCC filing confirmed many of the internal wireless details, but not the camera.

The photos show a relatively complete design and that Sprint likely doesn't have long before it ships the D600. When it arrives, it's likely to be given a friendlier name and to cost well below the usual $200 on contract. The feature set could make it the cheapest WiMAX phone on the network.
