Sony's identity theft protection for PSN users goes live

updated 04:10 pm EDT, Thu May 26, 2011

Customers offered 1 year of ID theft protection

Sony has announced that the special identity theft protection program that it is offering to PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers is live as of today. Sony initiated the program to help regain and retain customers after the recent hacking and theft of personal customer information from its websites that began in late April. The program provides PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders with 12 months of no cost AllClear ID Plus protection from Debix, an identity protection specialist.

The coverage provides cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet of a subscriber's personal information, access to identity restoration specialists if ID theft is suspected, and a $1 million per user identity theft insurance policy if a customer does fall victim to ID theft.

Residents of the US with active accounts as of April 20, 2011 who sign up by June 18 are eligible for this coverage.
