Clients, administrators need only a browser to use
Seefile Software have introduced version 5 of their web-based Digital Asset Management (DAM) server software, Seefile 5. Based on feedback from photographers, publishers and ad agencies, the program allows businesses to store their assets in "the cloud" even though the files are actually stored locally, but accessible from any web browser without anyone -- either administrators, users or clients -- having to deal with software beyond the web browser.
The Seefile server is easily installed on any recent Mac with a static IP address (or a service that offers static addresses like DynDNS) -- the company can provide fully cloud-based hosting or can bundle the software with a Mac mini if desired. Once installed, all administration is handled through the web browser, and the program makes full use of HTML5 to provide a desktop-like experience for admins and users alike. Seefile's server-based solution is, the company believes, superior to FTP servers, e-mail attachments and other limited options for easily viewing and sharing media files.
The new version offers smart filters based on dates, comments or approvals; improved navigation in a "tree-like" structure familiar to both Mac and Windows users; quick annotations on images and PDFs; the option to approve projects and jobs; easy e-mail invitations to preview content and an easy way for clients to upload or transfer large files without having to install and learn a client application.
The program is licensed based on the number of users, with prices ranging from $700 to $6,800. Anonline demo of the service as well as additional information are available from the company's website.

Crazy expensive
There are open source and much lower cost solutions out there. The pricing on this is insane.
