UK iPhone PR luring press to WWDC, iOS 5 likely real cause

Apple UK iPhone team pushing for WWDC visits

Apple may be hoping to draw more attention to WWDC than first thought after a source claimed on Wednesday that extra plans were underway. The company's iPhone PR group in the UK was reportedly asking local press at major outlets to fly to San Francisco for the developer conference. No direct confirmation was given to Electricpig as to the motivation.

The British site speculated that the attention, which would come at great expense to the media, was for an iPhone unveiling.

A more likely answer is iOS 5, which Apple alluded to when it was inviting developers to WWDC. Multiple leaks have popped up claiming that the event would focus solely on software. Most production plan leaks have pointed to a September release window and have made no mention of assembly having started, something which would had to have begun weeks ago to accommodate a launch.

Attention to WWDC may be more to focus on the significance of iOS this year versus past upgrades. Talk has persisted of iOS 5 being a major remake this year that, among other things, could see over-the-air updates and cloud music streaming.
