App adds SSE-optimized subdivision surfaces
Martin Wengenmayer has launched an update to his 3D modeling software, Cheetah3D 5.7. It offers 3D rendering and animation, in addition to modeling, with the promise of being easy to learn. The update focuses on new hotkeys, now supporting almost 200 commands and custom Javascripts, and adds a new preferences window with a Cocoa toolbar, along with bug fixes and optimizations, especially SSE-optimized subdivision surfaces.
The app features tools including subdivision surface modeling, joint based character animation system, UV unwrapping, texture painting, PDF import and a global illumination renderer. Additionally, Cheetah 3D's Collada support goes deeper in v5.7, introducing the export of animations and skinned characters.
The app requires Mac OS X 10.5 and 1GB of RAM. It costs $150, but is on sale through May 31 for $100. It is available online and on the Mac App Store.
