MeeGo 1.2 SDK, images released for developers

The MeeGo team on Thursday released MeeGo 1.2. It will allow developers and device makers to create apps and other software for Atom- and ARMv7-based devices, including tablets. The latest version of the Core OS has support for GSM, GPRS and HSPA+ networks, a SIM app toolkit, expanded Bluetooth profiles and more.

The software will let devs integrate USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth PAN (personal area network) data tethering devices. Enhanced multimedia support is present, with RTSP streaming and progressive download capability. VPN and wireless authentication methods have been expanded as well.

App developers will find the QML application framework and Qt-Mobility APIs especially useful, allowing them to add location, system, connectivity and both sensor and haptic feedback features.

A set of core Netbook UX 1.2 applications is available for download, along with an In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) UX 1.2 image that has a sample homescreen and speech recognition, among others.

Tablet developers get a preview, and the SDK itself is available as well.
