Pandigital Planet Android e-reader reaches the FCC

updated 05:20 pm EDT, Tue May 17, 2011

Company's 3rd attempt at reader/tablet market

Pandigital has submitted a new seven-inch e-reader/tablet to the FCC for its approval. The device, known as the Planet, is a cross between an e-reader and a tablet. It sports a TFT LCD screen and runs Android.

Unlike a traditional e-reader, the Planet integrates two cameras, a built-in microphone and an HDMI port. Preloaded apps include Facebook, OfficeSuite Viewer, and Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

Pandigital has had limited success in e-book readers and tablets. It originally entered the market with a color touch-ready device called the Novel last May. After much criticism because of the performance of its resistive touch LCD screen, the company relaunched the Novel in October, but with a black-and-white touchscreen instead.

Pricing and availability have not been announced. [via Wireless Goodness]
