AT&T may launch LTE in New York City June 30

updated 11:45 am EDT, Fri May 13, 2011

ATT LTE 4G rollout tipped for NYC on June 30

AT&T's planned LTE network rollout has received a tentative go-live date from a leak late Thursday. The true 4G network would start off in New York City on June 30, expanding later on to Los Angeles on July 24. IntoMobile didn't learn from its ostensibly reliable source whether there would be any cities upgrade in between.

The company didn't confirm or deny the plans but has repeatedly said it was now likely to have a commercial launch of LTE in the middle of the year.

Most of the initial batch of AT&T LTE devices are due to be adapters, routers, and built-in modems, though AT&T teased the prospect of an LTE tablet at the same time. The design is most likely to be the HTC Puccini, a 10-inch Android 3 model that could be the first in the US to ship with LTE built-in.

Despite speculation, Apple has suggested there won't be an LTE iPhone in the near future due to the design limits, most likely the large chipset sizes and poor battery life that have affected early Android LTE phones. An iPad 2 with LTE is also unlikely for similar reasons.
