Sony Ericsson not worried about slow Xperia Play game sales

SE: Xperia Play still a growing platform

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play handset, while capable of playing PS1 games, is not putting up big game sale numbers. But this is not a significant concern for Dominic Neil-Dwyer, the Head of Market Development at Sony Ericsson, according to PlayStationLifestyle. Popular PS1 game downloads number in the hundreds, with Destruction Derby the only title to reach as much as 1,000. In comparison, downloads for the PlayStation LifeStyle app number between 10,000 and 50,000 downloads.

Neil-Dwyer says it's still early for the handset, and there are relatively few PS1 games out there. More are coming and as more players purchase the handset, sales are bound to increase, Neil-Dwyer believed. PlayStation is also an exclusive content provider for the handset, he added.

"So, there's no concerns, it's a revolutionary device, it's shaking up the market, we're very pleased with it," Neil-Dwyer said, adding that the full assessment of the PlayStation Certified program needs to wait a little longer, though so far Sony remains "very happy" with it.

The exec also teased that more is coming, though it's not being made public yet. The PlayStation Network's ongoing outage isn't affecting the availability of the games for the Xperia Play, as games for it are delivered over the Android Market.
