Intuit extends online payroll to iOS with mobile app

Handles e-mail 'pay stubs,' employee info

Intuit today released an iOS app companion to their Online Payroll service that allows employers or accounting professionals to handle computing hours and paying employees both hourly and salaried, from anywhere with an internet connection. Accountants can choose which clients they will run payroll for, and employers can enter hours, preview paychecks, look up employee info and pay employees through manual check printing or direct deposit, with e-mail notifications, electronic "pay stubs" and other record-keeping tasks automatically handled.

Intuit's various payroll systems comprise one of the largest small-business payroll providers in the U.S., with more than one million customers. The app version allows employers to be able to run payroll remotely, without having to come in to the office or interrupt a meeting or vacation in order to enter employee hours, review them, approve them and pay employees. Paycheck details are automatically logged in the user's Online Payroll account, which is also accessible from any web browser.

The app allows employers to get a comprehensive view of how much each employee is getting paid, access employee data, send confirmations to employees and view reports on the last payroll run -- all handled with the same encryption technology used by banks to protect financial information online. The app also includes free telephone support.

Intuit's Online Payroll Mobile app is available as a free download, requiring iOS 3.1.3 or better, and works with iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Users must also subscribe to either Online Payroll or QuickBook Payroll for Mac, QuickBooks Online Payroll or Online Payroll for Accounting Professionals.
