Android 3.1 due for non-Verizon Xooms in weeks

Motorola announced that the Xoom tablet will receive an over-the-air update to Android 3.1 this week, though this update is reserved only for the 3G model available on Verizon. Those with Wi-Fi versions of the tablet or those from other carriers will have to wait as long as several weeks, the company said. At Google I/O, the software giant showed off Android 3.1 running on a Xoom.

Features of the new OS include support for Google' Android Market movie rentals, the ability to resize homescreen widgets, USB peripheral support, more Bluetooth features and full support for Adobe Flash Player 10.2.

Despite Motorola's announcements, several members over on Motorola's support forum claim their Wi-Fi Xoom has been successfully updated to Android 3.1. They are also Motorola Feedback Network members and seem to have got it early, and been reprimanded by Motorola officials to refrain from posting about their 'early' updates.
