Andy Rubin vows Nexus for Ice Cream Sandwich

Google's mobile VP Andy Rubin during a question and answer session at Google I/O today said that there would be a new Nexus device this year. Phones like the Nexus One or Nexus S 4G were what Google used to "set the bar" and would always come out. New Nexus releases came out during the "holidays and the summertime," he said.

The exact timing wasn't mentioned, but the fall is the most likely candidate. Google has already planned to launch Ice Cream Sandwich at the end of the year and may launch a new Nexus as the halo device for the new mobile OS.

Hardware details are still vague. Google has usually chosen one of its largest Android partners to build the phone and often bases it off of an existing or soon-to-come regular model. The Nexus One was based on what became the HTC Desire, and both the Nexus S as well as the Nexus S 4G were derived from Samsung's Galaxy S.

Finally, a reason to get an iPone. Wipe iOS and put the Green Robot on. Awesome!
