Comcast Xfinity VOD hits TiVo, Premiere bundled

TiVo scored two coups on Monday with word of major deals with Comcast. Owners of the DVR in most Comcast areas will get access to the cable company's Xfinity On Demand video service directly from a TiVo Premiere box. Search and other features should remain intact.

Comcast will also offer the Premiere itself, TiVo said. TV subscribers will get the Premiere for "no additional charge" as soon as the Xfinity On Demand option is available in their area. TiVo didn't say if the subscription to its own service would be free, though this isn't expected.

Subscribers in the San Francisco Bay Area are due to get the TiVo option first, but there was no mention of when it would start.

TiVo has had limited deals with cable companies in the past and has had TiVo software on Comcast DVRs in the past. The new Comcast deal, however, is one of the few instances of getting its DVRs offered as a regular feature with the TV provider's own service integrated into what's mostly TiVo's hardware.
