Sprint faces problems with Google Voice integration

updated 10:35 pm EDT, Thu May 5, 2011

Users report wide range of problems

Sprint appears to be experiencing problems with its Google Voice integration, as Google's troubleshooting forums have been flooded with users reporting a wide range of problems. Discussion topics point to alleged problems relating to errors enabling Google Voice services, numbers being assigned to other users, incorrect billing, and several other issues.

Alongside the Nexus S 4G unveiling, Sprint announced Google Voice integration that surpasses the standard service available through other carriers. Customers can choose to use their existing Sprint number as a Google Voice number, eliminating the need for a separate number registered through the search giant.

Some users claim they are unable to take advantage of the Google Voice integration as promised, while others suggest the service has been dropped unexpectedly. An Engadget report indicates the activation problems may be guaranteed with accounts using corporate or education discounts, along with Nextel or PowerSource handsets.

Sprint and Google have yet to formally announce any problems with the service, or disclose a time-frame for proper resolution.

    Works for me

I have a corporate discount, as do plenty of my co-workers. Everything has been smooth sailing for us.
