E Ink shows concepts ready for production

E-ink has been working on new applications and technologies for its e-paper displays, The Digital Reader found out. Demonstration videos embedded below show the progress the company has made, though production dates are up in the air as the company needs a partner to cover the manufacturing costs. The company showed e-paper displays embedded into cloth, making them flexible.

The first video shows a flashing SIRF display that flashes and would be ideal for use in advertising, whether on T-shirts, flags, banners or other promotional materials. The display has a small, limited number of segments and therefore cannot be used as an e-reader screen.

The company also developed an E Ink screen on Tyvex cloth that is usually used in security envelopes and as house insulation, as it's hard to cut or tear.

Finally, a full color E Ink display was made, though brightness and contrast left something to be desired compared to today's LCD screens. The quality of the video itself also wasn't yet ideal.

When these latest screens come into production isn't known.
