Enterprise-grade Mac-Windows networking software
Cross-platform integration between Mac OS X and Windows has made great strides in recent years, but enterprise and creative-professional users are aware of a "functionality gap" between some Microsoft-based workflows and even the latest version of OS X. Thursby Software Systems is a company that fills that gap, and today updated two of their flagship products, ADmitMac (for Active Directory and enterprise users) and DAVE (aimed at creative professionals) to versions 5.2 and 8.2 respectively, adding refinements to networked workflows around popular Mac applications.
DAVE features full support for Microsoft DFS and commercial-grade SMB/CIFS file sharing, compatibility with UNIX/Linux platforms running Samba, automatically eliminates extraneous "dot-underscore" files created by OS X's native SMB client, file- and printer-sharing features, correct handling of NTFS resource forks and is compatible with most major anti-virus, encryption and virtualization tools.
ADmitMac adds identity and access management for Macs on Active Directory networks, supports Kerberos Single Sign-On, can be managed from either Windows AD Group Policy Objects or Mac Workgroup Manager, and supports Microsoft's HISEC templates, mobile accounts, network home folders and AFP shares. Both products run in 64-bit under Snow Leopard or 32-bit under Leopard and are client-based solutions requiring no server software on either platform, nor any schema changes.
The new versions refine networked workflows that are centered around popular pro-level Mac applications such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe's Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, and are expected to be the last updates before the release of OS X 10.7, known as Lion, this summer. The current updates are free to all customers under a current support contract.
