Best Buy starts low-key Evo 3D orders
Eager candidates for the HTC Evo 3D have been given an unusual early pre-order option through a leaked Best Buy pre-order campaign. As of Monday, stores were quietly allowed to start taking deposits for the dual-core Android phone. The memo obtained by AndroidCentral warned stores to keep quiet on the pre-order but to offer it to anyone who asked and wasn't inclined to buy another phone.
The note told store staff that Best Buy hadn't confirmed any launch date beyond the summer. It also took a rare direct jab at online news sources and told staff that it could acknowledge the existence of online rumors but couldn't act on it as true.
HTC's phone will be Sprint's halo phone for at least some of 2011 and was the first known HTC phone in the US due to get a dual-core Snapdragon. It's also the first with 3D video recording and glasses-free playback.
