White iPhone 4 teardown shows inside camera, sensor changes

updated 07:10 pm EDT, Sun May 1, 2011

iPhone 4 in white uses new internal design

A teardown of the white iPhone 4 caught this weekend has shown that the white iPhone 4 has been changed on the inside to accommodate the new color. As spotted by MacOtakara, Japan's Smartphone Doctor found that the camera sensor is noticeably more deeply recessed than on the black version. The proximity sensor has also been modified slightly beyond just the visibly changed cut-out on the outside.

The design was already shown to be thicker.

Internal changes help explain Apple's claims that the interaction with sensors was a core reason why the white iPhone 4 was delayed for about 10 months. Both the camera and the proximity sensor may have been easily overwhelmed or confused by the white as-is and had to be changed to get similar behavior. A larger enclosure could be necessary not just to have a better-protected outside but possibly to accommodate inside modifications. [via AppleInsider]

    is it really thicker?

Phil Schiller says it's the same thickness as with the black one. Anyone with a micrometer??
