HTC Kingdom, Rider mystery Android phones pop up

updated 01:15 pm EDT, Thu April 28, 2011

HTC Kingdom and Rider prototypes leak out

HTC may not be finished with major phone introductions in 2011 as two leaks from the same source have pointed to two new models. One, the Kingdom, looks like a potentially smaller version of the Sensation but with the same 540x960 display resolution. The other, the Rider, has fewer details still from its 911sniper source but conspicuously has the same touch-sensitive button style as on Sprint's Evo-series phones.

Both look to be mid- to high-end phones and might not have the dual-core Snapdragon of the Sensation but may use the faster 1.2GHz and 1.4GHz single-core processors in the same chip family. HTC these days also usually starts with at least a five-megapixel camera, and both seem to have a camera on the front. Android 2.3 is almost certain, as is the new Sense 3.0 interface skin seen on the Sensation and the Evo 3D.

HTC has taken to having a summer or early fall event to fill out its release lineup and might show the Kingdom, Rider, and possibly the Doubleshot at just such a gathering. At least the Doubleshot has been attached to the US since it might arrive at T-Mobile, but the Rider's look could make it a candidate for Sprint.
